Recently the team at Burlington Aggregates have been working with Story Contracting in the supply of 12,500 tonnes of limestone from our Goldmire Quarry in Barrow-in-Furness.

The limestone was loaded at our Goldmire Quarry, it was directly loaded onto railway wagons using a stockpiling conveyor belt. The limestone is then shunted in the wagons via the railway system to their destination to grade the railway embankment. It is essential that high-quality materials are utilised for the embankment and that they can be adequately compacted to carry the loads from the passing trains. Of course, the team at Burlington Aggregates were able to provide an innovative solution using limestone aggregate and specialist plant to deliver the correct volumes needed for the project and eliminating over 625 loads being transported by road wagons.
Burlington Aggregates currently deliver our products via our extensive haulage network nationwide; however, this project stands out, as we have delivered limestone aggregate via a rail network, directly to the site that it is required for.
